چکیده

Real world line drawings are generated by the motion of artist’s hand over a paper plane. Our system attempts to reproduce line drawings by mimicking this dynamic motion. The artist maintains his or her gaze on the underlying model, conceptualizes the shape of the line that best depict the part of the model and then with the smooth motion of his or her hand produces a line on the paper. We present a conceptual framework along with a working prototype that attempts to closely follow this real world process. The framework builds poses for the model, highlights interesting feature lines on the model, creates a representative shape of the feature line on the paper and then with the motion of a moving pen generates line drawings. The framework also provides flexibility and support for existing techniques and algorithm available in non-photorealistic rendering research, in terms of finding perceptual aids, selection of feature lines, and rendering algorithms. We provide several results from a simple prototype system following this structure that demonstrates the validity of the concept.

Hidden Curve Elimination of Trimmed Surfaces Using B ezier Clipping

Shaded display is popular for displaying curved surfaces because of the realistic appearance of the images produced. In the eld of computer aided geometric design, however, line drawings are more commonly used. For accurate evaluation of the curved surfaces in these designs, the conventional method of approximating curved surfaces with polygons is insu cient. In this paper we will present a met...

Efficient and Dynamic Simplification of Line Drawings

In this paper we present a pipeline for rendering dynamic 2D/3D line drawings efficiently. Our main goal is to create efficient static renditions and coherent animations of line drawings in a setting where lines can be added, deleted and arbitrarily transformed on-the-fly. Such a dynamic setting enables us to handle interactively sketched 2D line data, as well as arbitrarily transformed 3D line...

Reconstruction of 1650 BC Fragmented Wall Paintings by Exploitation of the Thematic Content

In this paper two approaches of general applicability for placing fragments of important archeological objects in their proper position are presented. Both methods are based on the thematic content of the drawings depicted on fragments of 1650 B.C. wall-paintings, excavated at the Greek island of Thera. The first method employs the statistical nature of the drawn figures’ dimensions and gives a...

Creature Double Feature: On Style and Subject in the Art of Caricature

A caricature is a distinctive drawing in which the essence of a subject is rendered in the style of an artist. The question is: How do artists make distinctive drawings and how do viewers see subject and style? Here I explore this question in a series of three investigations on contour drawings of animal silhouettes. First, I present a descriptive study of how different artists (styles) create ...
